Pretreatment

The Easton Area Joint Sewer Authority (EAJSA) Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) was initiated as part of an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirement to monitor and control non-domestic user of the Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) that discharge toxic unconventional or unusually strong conventional waste. The EAJSA’s IPP was approved by the EPA and initiated in 1984. In 1997 the EAJSA contracted United Water to manage the IPP. Staff includes an Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator, Administrative Assistant and two (2) Program Technicians. The goal of the program is to prevent interference with POTW operations, pass-through of pollutants, sludge contamination and exposure of workers to chemical hazards.

General EAJSA business and administrative tasks are handled by the Executive Secretary. United Water handles all facets of the Environmental Protection Agency mandated IPP for the EAJSA.
