EAJSA History

The Authority was incorporated on December 10, 1976, pursuant to the Authorities Act, and ordinances enacted by the governing bodies of the City of Easton (the “City”) and neighboring Boroughs and Townships.  The current incorporating members of the Authority are the City, the Townships of Forks and Palmer, and the Boroughs of Tatamy, West Easton and Wilson, all located in Northampton County, Pennsylvania.  Under the Authorities Act, the Authority is empowered to acquire, hold, construct, improve, maintain, operate and lease, as lessor or lessee, sewer systems and sewage treatment works.  The governing body of the Authority is its Board, composed of 12 members who are appointed by the governing bodies of the incorporating municipalities to five-year terms.  The terms of the members of the Authority Board are staggered so that the terms of some but not all of the members expire each year.  Members of the Authority Board may be reappointed.  The Authority Board is responsible for general oversight of the business affairs of the Authority Board implemented by its staff hired by the Board.
